CorelDRAW

AI files could be opened by all recent versions of CorelDRAW software. CorelDRAW software is a Windows OS operating system product. Pricing for CorelDRAW Home & Student suite starts from $109.99.

To open AI file in CorelDRAW choose File->Import… in main menu. File selection dialog will appear. Choose AI file that you want to import. Using your mouse position an image from AI file to the desired location.

InkScape

InkScape is a powerful free vector graphics editor. It is available for multiple operating systems including FreeBSD, Linux, Mac OS and Windows OS. You can open AI file in InkScape by selecting File->Open… in the main menu. Note that to open AI files created by Adobe Illustrator 8.0 or earlier you need to install UniConvertor module for InkScape.

Sketch

Sketch is a vector graphics editing software from Bohemian Coding. It has limited support for AI files import and can open them as a single layer file. In order to get multiple layer vector image, you can also try to rename AI file to PDF and open it in Sketch. Please note that the last option will only work if AI file was saved with “Save PDF Compatible Version” option.

Affinity Designer

Affinity Designer is a vector graphics editing Software from Serif Europe. It can open only AI files saved with PDF compatibility option checked. Affinity Designer can open regular AI files, but Adobe Illustrator styles, brushes, textures and other specific assets are not supported.

Gravit Designer is a full featured free cross-platform vector editing software. It is available for Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Chrome and Web browsers. Gravit can open AI files created with PDF compatibility support enabled.

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is a raster image editing software. Thus, it is not possible to open AI file as a vector multi-layered file. You can only open AI file as a raster layer and move or resize it accordingly. It is recommended to place AI file in a vector smart object layer. This way you can resize the AI object to the correct size and re-rasterize it as needed.
